What is Xrail?

Xrail is a production Alliance aiming to render international Wagonload traffic by rail more customer-friendly and efficiently. The Alliance aims to increase the competitiveness of Wagonload traffic in Europe, protecting the environment by offering a more sustainable alternative to road.

The Alliance consists of 6 members, currently covering major European Wagonload networks throughout 11 countries.

Xrail has developed new cross-border production standards, supporting IT tools and different quality improvement measures for international Wagonload traffic, and all Alliance partners are committed to maintaining the high standards of quality and service for the customers.

The Xrail Alliance has defined production standards benefiting international Wagonload customers for the covered network share in three areas:

  • Reliability - 90% minimum reliability rate relative to the given estimated time of arrival
  • Transport information - valuable information provided before, during and after the transport
  • Time to market - transport quotes will be provided within a maximum of 3 working days

Xrail focuses on the production of international Wagonload traffic between the rail freight operators. The Alliance is not targeting block train transport or combined transport. The commercial part of Wagonload traffic, such as customer relations and pricing, remains the direct responsibility of each of the participating railway companies, who continue to compete with one another.
